STATEMENT

The subjects of my paintings are people and the composition of objects. The human figure in painting enters a different dimension. I transform appearances and reinvent these in the layers of color.  Simultaneously real and detached, the figures fall into a safety net in the quicksand of the human experience.
My models are either my friends or people sighted randomly, and I work either from life or from my photos,
In many paintings of assembled objects, such as baby carriages, inanimate objects come to life. I believe in an animistic vision of reality, in which everything, animate or inanimate, has a life. The reality I see is tragic but it contains a great beauty. The words that often come to mind are the first of the Cantico delle Creature: Laudato si', mi' Signore, per sora luna e le stelle, in celu l'ài formate clarite et pretiose et belle.

I paint for myself and for those who know that the reality we see is not enough.
